If you know me, you know that I LOVE shoes. I have a lot of them. My wedding shoes were the one piece of my attire of which I was willing to spend some money. Now, I wasn’t willing to go into the thousands, but a few hundred would have been ok with me. I know I always feel amazing when I have a good pair of shoes on. I have found my shoes. Well, I hope I have. One of my besties and bridesmaid found a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s that were exactly what I was looking for – the right color of blue, peep-toe and adorable :) The problem was they were $715. Ouch.

So one night while celebrating a Steelers’ win against the Baltimore Ravens, I found this website that had them for $178. It seemed legit at the time, so I ordered them. That was almost 2 weeks ago. I still have yet to see them and I am slightly nervous that they will either never come and I will have to battle for 50 weeks to get my money back or they will steal my credit card number and charge it up. I’ll keep you posted on whether I get them, whether they are real, and whether my credit card balance mysteriously increases. Ok, well the last one happens sometimes, but that is usually when I am in denial and out shopping.

Even though I have already *hopefully* purchased the shoes of my dreams, I still enjoy looking. “Window” shopping for shoes online is like my chocolate. So I thought I would share a pair. I might consider these if my Manolo’s turn out to be Munolo’s.

I love the detailing and decoration. Plus, they can be dyed any color to match your gown or to give you that pop of color to add some funk to your get-up. They can be found at My Glass Slipper, which is one of my favorites for looking at pretty, designer wedding shoes.

Friday Finds 1.28.11

January 28th, 2011

I am constantly on the search for practical favors. I love the idea of giving your guests something that they can use and each time they do will think of you. I love them even more when they serve double duty. I found these adorable place card holders that double as favors.

The laughing Buddha is a symbol of happiness and prosperity. Who doesn’t want those qualities in their marriage? These place cards can also be used to hold photos, so guests can put it on their desks, mantle or end table in their homes. So cute. They can be purchased from Favors by Project Wedding.

Never stop learning.

January 25th, 2011

This is something I have been told my entire life. Never stop learning, whether it is personally, professionally, or just for fun. Since officially launching Nicki Ann Events, I have learned so much. Business tactics, financial matters, and just plain brainstorming have kept me extremely busy in the last few months. Not to mention the actual duties of my job.

As you might have read previously, I incorporated my business goals into my New Years’ resolutions. One of my resolutions is to attend some conferences and seminars to learn more about the profession and create a business that can hold its own in the world of weddings. Something I can be proud of. I had no idea where to even start. So I thought I would leave it up to the wonderful and knowledgable people on Twitter. And of course, the twitter-ites came through and the Wedding Merchants Business Academy Convention was suggested (Thanks Sharron Mabry!).

So let’s talk about this convention. It takes place in the middle of September at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Yes. You heard it right. VEGAS. I know. It was a twist my arm kind of thing, but I figured Vegas will do. I am even more excited because I have never been there. So clearly the location is a bonus.

But that is not the half of it. The sponsors for the convention are equally as impressive. The Knot. Martha Stewart Weddings. Wedding Wire. I mean, all of the big ones. The speakers themselves are CEOs and Presidents of these companies. Clearly, they know their stuff. I am just so excited to even be in the same room as them let alone have them bestow their knowledge on me. This is going to be AWESOME!

After reading about it, I was completely sold. There was never a question of whether I wanted to attend. It was only a question of how I was going to pay for the conference. Being a new business, there are costs everywhere and not always the income to support it. This was going to take some planning. But I made up my mind. I decided I am going to this convention.

And then I noticed that Wedding MBA had offered this little contest where you could tell why attending the conference was one of your New Year’s resolutions. If you are chosen, you will have registration covered for the convention. Well, as you can see from this post, it was not originally one of my resolutions since I knew nothing about the convention prior to writing them. However, it is the perfect tool for achieving my resolutions. I truly believe that all of my business goals for the year will be positively impacted by attending this conference. I am going to use all of my energy to better myself and my business by using the knowledge gained from this conference. I can’t wait to be one of the winners of this contest (positive thoughts!).

Friday Finds 1.21.11

January 21st, 2011

Accessorizing is key for any outfit. Why should it be different for your wedding? I found this amazing clutch on Etsy by Davie and Chiyo.

The best part is that they have a ton of colors and styles that are all very trendy and appropriate to serve as a great accessory for your big day or as a gift for your bridesmaids. The other bonus is that it can be used afterwards when going to a party or even another wedding. Be sure to check out the other items from Davie and Chiyo.

Friday Finds 1.14.11

January 14th, 2011

Ok, so this is not for your “typical” bride. This piece is pretty unique, but oh so adorable. I love, love, love this and would honestly consider it if my wedding were in the fall.

It is designed by Edward Berger . You can’t purchase it online unfortunately, but there are a ton of places that carry his line. I had to share because I couldn’t just “leaf” it alone… ok, that was cheesy.

Friday Finds

January 13th, 2011

I had this idea to help me with my resolution to blog at least once per week. My posts are usually longer and wrapped around a story that ultimately has some tips or ideas included. Sometimes I just find really cool stuff that I want to talk about. Each Friday, I will post something I found. It can be a really good tip, an accessory, a blog, or anything else wedding related. Feel free to send me things that you find and want to share too. The more the merrier. So with that, watch out for the first “Friday Finds” of the year. Coming tomorrow! Happy 2011!!

E-Session Round 2

January 7th, 2011

Well this post is delayed by about 5 months. But to be honest, I completely forgot I hadn’t posted anything yet. We had our engagement photos taken with our wedding photographer, Erica Hilliard. We went to Point State Park, downtown and PPG Place. I wanted to get some shots of the place where it all went down.

I was really excited to interact with Erica because she would be shooting photos of one of the most important days of our lives. I had seen photos from her portfolio she showed us when we first met with her and have been stalking her blog since our session. I love her style because it isn’t only focused on the people but incorporates the background to give it an artsy flair. Here are a few of my favorites.
